	DESCRIPTION
	Officially established on 1 May 2001, the 'URA' is a Hong Kong statutory body responsible for accelerating redevelopment to provide a better living environment. Its predecessor was the Land Development Corporation. To address the problems of urban decay in dilapidated areas, the Urban Renewal Authority Ordinance (Cap. 563) was enacted in July 2000. It provides a new institutional framework for carrying out urban renewal.
